How To Figure Out What You Want in Life with 10 Tips

Have you ever feel like you’re stuck in your life that you don’t belong anywhere, don't know where you want to go and what you want to be? In fact, we enter specific stages in life where we have to make many important decisions related to what we want to do in terms of career, relationships, work, school, etc. 

Generally, It is not always a simple thing to know exactly what you want to do in life. As time goes very fast, so now we have to realize that our goals must get moved as fast as possible by doing many things required to reach them, and doing these things as quickly as you can. That means you have to take time to do just that and stop wasting time on other useless things anymore.

By the way, I suppose you remember some people who do something for a living that they don't really like doing so much. After their daily work, they are feeling discomfort, boredom, and anxiety. These are the signs of something is not right. 

Why did it happen to them? Short answer, they’re simply ignoring their inner guide! Because they have been too focused on hunting a specific result (Money or power) that is not aligned with their personal strengths, values, and passion. Moreover, they’ve forgotten what they really enjoy doing, what makes them excited, and what their values are.

This is the unhappy thing to see and we believe that those people could truly change that immediately if they only realized that they could… That means, without any objective and purpose, they feel lost. So how would you guide yourself and manage to get out of this thick puzzle you have ended up in?

1- Discover yourself

To really figure out what you want in life, you need to know: 

  • Who you are,
  • What you already have, 
  • What is your life today, 
  • What you need to do, instead of looking for permission from others,
  • And what does it mean to you? 

It is crucial to identify where you currently stand with life and how you feel about it because that is what will hint the journey for life-changing.

When you’ve tried these things, you’ll have a lot better idea of what you like and what you don’t. Therefore, all of these things give you the freedom to choose how you want to see your world and help you define what success looks like to you. 

In this case, when you keep trying, you will master the ability to choose how you want your life to look like and not to live in someone else's dream.

3- Make a list of your values

Knowing what you value most in life is important. Your values are a great starting point because it hugely guides you to your choices and preferences. 

For example, someone who values money and success will have a different life purpose than someone who favors family and nature. This is sad to see most people aren’t aware of their values because they’ve never thought it's important.

Take some time to talk to your gut and follow your heart. Despite what you believe to be most important in life, if it replies to you, follow it through. Never allow your senses to be destroyed by external disturbance. 

So make a list of every value you own, and then prioritize your list by putting the most relevant values at the top and focus on them.

They are the reasons why you want to wake up in the morning and try again and again. They make your whole life worth living with them. If you don’t do so, you’ll end up more discouraged and displeased with life.

Recall something you are really passionate about based on possibilities, interests, and connections. Then it can be agriculture, travel, fashion, craft, etc.

Every day, you’re working in a restless day job that consumes most of your time and energy, and then you realize it’s not what you love. However, you want to get up in the morning and feel inspired by what you do. Unfortunately, you don’t know what exactly that is?

7- Start making lists

Start with a list of everything you want in life such as: The projects you want to do, the properties you want to own, the places you want to visit, the sports you want to try. The courses you want to learn, the things that make you happy, etc.

As you continue to make these lists, your hidden things will appear continually and you may have not realized that they meant so much to you earlier.  

After you are finished your list, it is time to narrow it down by deleting anything that you don’t really want to do in your life and anything that doesn't align with your values. 

Now you have a shortlist in your hand, so It's time to do some analysis. Think about why you want to do this every day of your life, what would bring you happiness? Then take all of this work into action and bring them to life. It's time to achieve your dreams, so work for it!

8- What are your strengths?

Think about what you are already good at. Could you develop more of those strengths and use them in your life in a good way?

Understanding your strengths gives you huge benefits across our life. When you spend time thinking about your strengths and weaknesses, it lets you consider the different positions where you would shine, and where you wouldn’t.

Meanwhile, you can start to determine which ones are beneficial and contribute to who you want to be, and which ones don’t.

9- Determine how hard you’re willing to work

For example, if you want to be a tycoon, it probably has to take a huge amount of work. In any case, perhaps you likes playing sport and likes to spend time with your friends so much. Thus, do you have enough time to commit?

Think about how much time you’re willing to spend on something and guarantee that the possibilities to meet the deadline. By the way, your work is not a burden! Because you love it. You can do what you love every day and you can make a living doing it!

10- What do you not like to do?
